As a toddler, Du Pree mimicked Will Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and later choreographed dances in the basement with play cousins. It’s always been her dream to be a star of film, stage, and television, so it was only right that she studied musical theatre at Howard University, following the footsteps of industry titans like Phylicia Rashad, Chadwick Boseman, and Tara P. Henson. Du Pree is drawn to innovative narratives that explore characters and subject matter often not seen on stage or film. Like the African proverb says, “Until the Lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter.” A few of her favorite roles have been Deena Jones in Dreamgirls, Orphie in Orphie and the Book of Heroes, and The Queen in Alice’s Wonderland.
